The full-color illustrations and layout are as visually appealing as a Dorling Kindersley or National Geographic nonfiction title. It has a very good index and glossary. Most articles are between two and six pages and highlight important individuals (I never realized Chinese explorer Zheng He was Muslim!) or various contributions made by Muslims to science; art; culture; etc. For example the article on pottery discusses the development of the lustre glaze in the 8th century and its influence; articles on paper and gunpowder discuss how the technology was learned from the Chinese and then new innovations were made by Muslims. The back includes extensive notes regarding the sources; which range from modern books to ancient manuscripts held in specified library or museum collections. Recommended for young people interested in history and technology.1 of 2 people found the following review helpful.
