PDF 23 Navy Air in Korea by John L. Newburn in History

Description

During the antebellum period; New Orleans was the largest German colony below the Mason-Dixon line. Later settlements moved upriver between New Orleans and Donaldsonville; near Lecompte; and in North Louisiana near Minden. Germans of Louisiana is the first unified published study of the influence the German people made on the state of Louisiana and its inhabitants. Beginning with the French and Spanish colonial periods and working through the post-Civil War period; this book covers the heritage those German settlers left behind.

I have a very large collection of naval ...By Thomas MartinI have placed Newburn’s only book on the shelf next to Richard Bach’s STRANGER TO THE GROUND. It is different than Bach’s book in that unlike Bach’s one flight described in detail; it is a series of short stories over his Korea era naval air career. With the present Korea situation drawing more attention I went looking and I found this published in year- 2000 book. I have no idea how this book has done market wise over the past 17 years; but I see that the last review here on was in 2007; 10 years ago!; and only three total reviews to boot! I am amazed. I have a very large collection of naval aviation books and this one is unique; like Bach’s; in that it has a very personal touch…you actually connect with the author’s experience and with him. At least that was my reaction. It is not just an operational recount but a story which includes his reaction to sudden fellow pilot losses. I went looking for other books by him and discovered that he died in 2002 of a short illness. If you want a naval air Korea combat read that has meaning (not to get too carried away but the word existential comes to mind) embedded in nearly each story then it has 5 Stars. On my top 10 shelf!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Kind of brief; ends suddenly; but still worth reading.By CustomerEnjoyed the story; but was disappointed with the abrupt ending. Still worth reading.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Forgotten war; no longer forgottenBy Lewis HillAnyone with even the slightest interest in the Korean War can thoroughly enjoy the adventures that John Newburn and his crew had while John was a navy pilot in Korea during the war. Life among the pilots; the various turns of the war; the entry of the Chinese; and many of the known and unknown details of the conflict are vividly described. It is a book that can be read from beginning to end; or by indulging in the various chapters; but it is likely to be one that will be kept; and reread from time to time.
