A Good Medicine Collection: Life in Harmony with Nature

ebooks A Good Medicine Collection: Life in Harmony with Nature by Adolf Hungry Wolf; Adolf Hungry Wolf in History

Description

The narratives here were collected in the 1950s from seven members of the Washoe Trive living on the eastern slopes of the Sierra in California and Nevada. They were followers of the Native American Church; whose sacrament was the peyote cactus and whose members referred to their religion as the Tipi Way. Synthesizing oral accounts into a first-person narrative; d'Azevedo ambles with unadorned directness; honesty; and humor through the Peyote Medicine culture.

GOOD MEDICINE IN A HEALTHY DOSE !!By jormaThis offering of previously published material is a great introduction to Native; or Indigenous ways; customs stories legends. This book contains volumes; 1; 2; 4; 6; 8 of the Good Medicine book series. This inclusive volume includes simple craft instructions; such as constructing a Tepee; Sweat lodge; moccasins; fur caps; beading; even a cabin !!The author had an early interest in Indigenous; or Native ways; from money earned from a childhood paper route; purchased a small parcel of land; immediately becoming an avid student of the nearby Native Elders. Truly the gems of this collection are the tales; either told to him by the Elders; or through his research at school; foregoing a career in law to major in Indigenous studies. These legends ALWAYS have a message or lesson; are a priceless way of learning; that hopefully will be preserved taught to future generations.Complete with rare BW photographs; beautiful sketch illustrations; and simple diagrams; this collection is surely one to treasure. A great introduction to many Native topics that will hopefully spark an interest into furthur (purposely misspelled) studies; to keep the respect due to our Great Mother; help preserve the Sacred Ways!4 of 4 people found the following review helpful.
