The book confirms my long held impresssion that French people know China the most among Europeans.By CustomerOne cannot find the whole history of China in one book except by Gernet. Combine it with use of Internet for further detail; one will find i it more than adequate to have the broad explanation and deep narrative of history of China.I had Chinese history course when I was a child in China and Hong Kong for each year from 5th to 12th grade; which means study the Chinese history in greater detail each year. But that is no comparison to what is in this one book. My own school education only enables me to appreciate this book; which reading often change my perception of the past and add new awareness. I study English language in the same school system from 5th to 12 grade also. I find it more imposing to read about my ancestors' past and challenging as compared to same number of years learning (and practicing) English.
