DOC A History of God: The 4;000-Year Quest of Judaism; Christianity and Islam by Karen Armstrong in History

Description

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER Harry de Leyer first saw the horse he would name Snowman on a truck bound for the slaughterhouse. The recent Dutch immigrant recognized the spark in the eye of the beaten-up nag and bought him for eighty dollars. On Harry’s modest farm on Long Island; he ultimately taught Snowman how to fly. Here is the dramatic and inspiring rise to stardom of an unlikely duo. One show at a time; against extraordinary odds and some of the most expensive thoroughbreds alive; the pair climbed to the very top of the sport of show jumping. Their story captured the heart of Cold War–era America—a story of unstoppable hope; inconceivable dreams; and the chance to have it all. They were the longest of all longshots—and their win was the stuff of legend.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. which is not a bad idea anywayBy pbqueenThe book; as others have noted; is an overview of complicated topics. As such; it does not give as much detail as one might prefer. I find myself questioning the author's assertions because they seem conclusory and not necessarily based on factual information. However; this is not unexpected given the amount of material she is attempting to cover. I will need to seek out secondary sources; which is not a bad idea anyway.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Thanks for this bookBy Brigid F. DunnExcellent and surprisingly funny in many places. Professor Armstrong reveals a great deal of the human story that we should not forget as we search for God. This book encourages honesty and humor; essential elements in scholarship and storytelling.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy AADeLa very good book worth the read AADeL
