Embodying the Dharma explores the centrality of relic veneration in Asian Buddhist cultures. Long disregarded by Western scholars as a superstitious practice reflecting the popularization of "original" Buddhism; relic veneration has emerged as a topic of vital interest in the last two decades with the increased attention to Buddhist ritual practice and material culture. This volume includes studies of relic traditions in India; Japan; Tibet; Sri Lanka; and Thailand; as well as broader comparative analyses; including comparisons of Buddhist and Christian relic veneration.

But; more than that; it is a study of how simple courage; and moral conviction; interact with selfish elitism. The tremendous smallness of people insinuates itself into every potentially lofty action. It is difficult to identify and relish any of the noble moments. The reader is constantly introduced to a never ending stream of parasites who successfully deflate every possible elation. Sadly; that; not the exploration; is the saga. Frustratingly worth the read.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. What an amazing true story of a woman's survival under the harshest of Arctic conditions. Very deftly written and thoroughly engaging. One thing I wasn't expecting was to have a couple of major villains in the story. I can't recommend this book highly enough. It makes a good companion piece to "In the Kingdom of Ice;" which I enjoyed earlier this year.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
