Description

“It is the writer’s duty to tell the terrible truth; and it is a reader’s civic duty to learn this truth. To turn away; to close one’s eyes and walk past is to insult the memory of those who have perished.” Vasily Grossman; an official journalist with the Red Army and one of the first Russians to enter the Treblinka death camp; struggles to comprehend the barbarity and the inhuman atrocities committed by the Nazis. An excellent journalist; he presents the facts as reported to him by the survivors and the captured Nazis. As he writes it is “a story so unreal that it seems like the product of insanity and delirium”.

T Edison Brought H Ford to the World Preserved Buffalo Bill When Filing Moving Pictures Patent Plus So Much MoreBy Andy Anderson aka Travis C.This 51 page booklet is the ideal length for commuting via carpool to an from work.Early on we learn two nice nuggets: Henry Ford was nurtured by Thomas Edison. Also; Ford was a devout anti-Semite. So much so that Adolph Hitler held him in high esteem. There's lots more information in this well-written book about a man genuinely interested in doing right by his nation in what he understood to being right. Remember; his first two or three forays into automobile production were failures; commercially. Yet; he persisted and; ultimately; prevailed.Anyone interested in history; business; or in economics is encouraged to read American Legends: The Life of Henry Ford; for this quick reading booklet is a great introduction to a great; if not flawless; human being.Incidentally; while watching a video regarding Buffalo Bill; the narrator explained that a very short clip within the DVD was of a parade of Buffalo Bill's Wild West as it entered a city in preparation for an upcoming show. It's not a critical piece of trivia; I realize; but it is cool that the inventor who changed our lives in so many direct ways as Edison; also affected the future by providing us Henry Ford; and preserved the past with the only known video clip of Buffalo Bill; the man possibly most responsible for America's love for TV Westerns during the fifties and sixties.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Ford: the embodiment of the American Spirit. Warts and all.By Joe KramarzI grew up in Michigan and as an adult lived for a number of years in the Detroit area including Dearborn. Henry Ford was as ubiquitous to life in Michigan as the title Motor City was to the USA. Everyone knew Henry. This short book written in my opinion in the style of Wikipedia ( just the facts; ma'am . Joe Friday) was packed with the details of Ford's life and his accomplishments. Some I was aware of like the assembly line and his dislike for labor unions. Other interesting facts were his use of a guarantee of service after the sale and profit sharing for his workers. He believed in a benevolent capitalism which benefited everyone. His view of the big picture to increase wealth for everyone drove him to do what today would be called social engineering. He was a pioneer in the air plane industry; and in the chemistry of plastics and fuel for his automobiles. One surprise was that he allowed other colors than black as long as you PAID EXTRA for the paint job.The reason I did not give the book a 5 star rating was the lack of explanation into his complex character regarding his views regarding Jews. On the one hand he hired blacks; women and handicapped to work in his plants at full wages while at the same time refusing to hire Jews to work inside his offices. While he was quoted as blaming Jews for financing wars and making shoddy equipment; the book did not give any background as to why he was so vehement in his opposition to the Jews to go so far as to publish a news paper and support Hitler. The book does give resources in the back pages for further study for those who wish to delve into his life in a deeper way. A second reason for the 4 star rating was the lack of commentary on Fords bringing Muslims to America to work in his plants. Dearborn now has the largest population of Muslims in America thanks to Fords decision to get their labor. An interesting oversight. In the meantime; I do recommend this book highly as it filled in so many blanks regarding Ford and his impact on America and its automobile culture.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful.
