American Legends: The Life of Jack Palance

audiobook American Legends: The Life of Jack Palance by Charles River Editors in History

Description

In November; 1950; the United States Army suffered one of its most devastating defeats ever; in the frozen mountains of North Korea at the hands of the Chinese People‘s Liberation Army. This defeat fundamentally changed the nature of the Korean War. It was; however; avoidable. This Chinese victory was partially the result of one of the most glaring failures in U.S. military intelligence history. The officer most responsible for this failure was the Far East Command Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence (G2); Major General Charles Andrew Willoughby. His inaccurate intelligence picture contributed to General of the Army Douglas MacArthur‘s flawed understanding of the nature of the Chinese Communist intent.

I was simply stunned that with just one credit to go at Stanford Jack dropped out and devoted all of his time towards acting!By Don KidwellDon't get me wrong; I'm glad he did as I've enjoyed his performances in many movies; but as has become a happenstance of these books from Charles River Editors you find things out about people you never knew before. The man lead an interesting life having at one time been a professional boxer; cattle rancher; WW2 Armed Air Force veteran; and journalist before earning his reputation as one of the renown hardened villains in the film world. I found this to be a very good book overall and glad I grabbed it as it reminded me of several films of his I'm wanting to see including "Panic in the Streets" ; "Halls of Montezuma" and "Ten Seconds to Hell."1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The man the LEGEND!By DD GottJack Palance was really a living legend in the entertainment field. I remember meeting him many years ago and thinking at the time that there was never an actor that had the presence that he did. After reading this book and learning more of his history it becomes clear the reason that he had acquired that presence.I was so surprised to learn how he even became an actor and the exceptional background that he had. Until now I had assumed that he like so many were discovered and then that led to acting. But never did I ever realize the complexity of the man. I guess the most surprising thing about him was his education; writing abilities and the fact that he was also a painter. What did I like? There were so many things about him that up till now I was completely unaware of. I'm not sure that many people were. So the main thing that I liked would be the details of his varied background. What did I dislike? I mean come on what is there to not like about Jack Palance. He was a very learned man that always gave back to the land. Patriot; loving; giving; and excellent actor. What will you like? The in detail research of his background and vivid descriptions of his checkered past; The long list of movies that he was in along with the people that were in his life. It`s really; really sad that we have lost so many talented actors in the last few years. I know that it's a fact of life but they can never be replaced. A man such as Jack was really a one of a kind; and how do you replace that? This book is really very good and I have read many from this publisher. They are excellent in their research and details. I have faith that If I read something in one of their books you can take it to the bank. Enjoy another great book about one of our legends.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A Terrible Pamphlet That Should Be Avoided.By RP PlastinaThis pamphlet disguised as a "book" is a disgrace. The misleading reviews that I read that lead me to purchase this tiny; badly written account of Jack Palance had to be done by people associated with Charles Rivers Editors. Mistakes abound it should be avoided by everyone who wants to really read about Palance. book buyers beware of this piece of trash that contains information that is wrong as well as some pictures that have nothing to do with Jack Palance.
