From master storyteller and New York Times bestselling Historian H. W. Brands comes the definitive biography of a visionary and transformative presidentIn his magisterial new biography; H. W. Brands brilliantly establishes Ronald Reagan as one of the two great presidents of the twentieth century; a true peer to Franklin Roosevelt. Reagan conveys with sweep and vigor how the confident force of Reagan’s personality and the unwavering nature of his beliefs enabled him to engineer a conservative revolution in American politics and play a crucial role in ending communism in the Soviet Union. Reagan shut down the age of liberalism; Brands shows; and ushered in the age of Reagan; whose defining principles are still powerfully felt today. Employing archival sources not available to previous biographers and drawing on dozens of interviews with surviving members of Reagan’s administration; Brands has crafted a richly detailed and fascinating narrative of the presidential years. He offers new insights into Reagan’s remote management style and fractious West Wing staff; his deft handling of public sentiment to transform the tax code; and his deeply misunderstood relationship with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev; on which nothing less than the fate of the world turned. Reagan is a storytelling triumph; an irresistible portrait of an underestimated politician whose pragmatic leadership and steadfast vision transformed the nation.

The road From British Mandate Palestine to IsraelBy Dr. Alon kaplanAnonymous Soldiers fighting for IsraelThis book deals with important period of the history of Israel. A comprehensive research and review of the period of British mandate in Palestine. The author describes the events covering the conflict between the Jewish and Arab communities in Palestine under British Mandate as they were recorded in the various archives in London and Israel. The book has a fascinating presentation of life in Palestine prior to the establishment and the creation of the state of Israel. The role of people who later became the leaders of the state of Israel is very interesting including; Menachem Begin; Haim Weizmann and David Ben gurion.Recommended for good reading.Dr.Alon KaplanTel Aviv1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. reading this book provides good context for understanding the basis for both sides viewsBy davicA well written and interesting book exploring all sides. The book mostly focuses on the struggle between the British and Jews in British controlled Palestine. The information on the Arab conflict with the Jews is also very interesting and you can see how these conflicts continue in the present day; reading this book provides good context for understanding the basis for both sides views; which really does seem irreconciable. One very interesting aspect relevant to today is the dispute within the British government between the military that wanted harsh punitive measures against the Jews and the Colonial Office that felt such a heavy hand would be counterproductive; and better to have more focused action. I also do not believe the book necessarily answers the question can a terror campaign succeed in producing results. Some historians responding to this book say that the terror campaign was not a key factor because the British had made a overall decision to divest all their colonial possessions.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. HE REALLY DID HIS HOMEWORK!By John SpenceThe research and documentation are amazing. This is essentially from the British perspective. Bell's Terror Out of Zion Should also be read and also Frank' s The Deed and Major Farran's Hat. The struggle for a Jewish State should be compared with the Irish experience. Read Coogan on Michael Collins; Bloody Sunday; and Guerrilla Days in Ireland.
