Objectives AccomplishedBy Teresa HermizThis stirring collection of the best anti-slavery writings in America between 1830 and 1860 kept me awake many hours just thinking what I would have wanted done about the slavery issue had I been there. C. Bradley Thompson; writer of several of my favorite books; always achieves his objectives. In this reader he wanted to "present the best writings and speeches from the most influential anti-slavery advocates... in the years between 1830 and 1860". He also introduces the reader to the range of ideas regarding slavery that those advocates had. Perhaps most importantly the reader must think about whether compromises on this vital subject; or any subject dealing with good and evil; did or ever can be made to work.
