In 1723; James Bell grabbed a book from a London bookstall and started to run; but he was chased by several witnesses and was discovered hiding in a dog kennel. As punishment for his crime; Bell was loaded on a ship and sent to colonial America; where he was sold at auction as an indentured servant for a seven-year term. Most people know that England shipped thousands of convicts to Australia; but few are aware that colonial America was the original destination for Britain's unwanted criminals. In the 18th century; thousands of British convicts like Bell were separated from their families; chained together in the hold of a ship; and carried off to America. What happened to these convicts once they arrived? Did they eventually prosper in an environment of unlimited opportunity; or were they ostracized by other colonists and doomed to live in poverty? Anthony Vaver tells the stories of the petty thieves and professional criminals who were subjected to this unique punishment; and in bringing to life this forgotten chapter in American history; he challenges the way we think about immigration to early America. The book also includes an appendix with tips on researching individual convicts who were transported to America.

The Best Book Since Animal FarmBy IrishFirstly; this book is amazingly honest and it's language is very down to earth.Second; Normally when I get books I either never finish them or I drag out the reading process due to bordem. I cannot say this loud enough; I WAS SO ENGAGED AND INTERESTED; THAT I READ THIS BOOK COVER TO COVER IN JUST TWO DAYS!!! No book has done that to me since I read Animal Farm in middle school. This tells a tale of a young man's life in and out of the neo nazi movement. (A young man we all could have become given similar curcumstances). I don't want to spoil anything else (read the plot synopsis for that); just take my word it's a very very good book for anyone interested in the horrors of american racism.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Awesome Story!By GBAbsolute enthralling book story. Loved it. Keep the reader engaged. Frank opens up and lays out the truth of his life and makes no excuses. The writer did an excellent job putting it on paper while doing her research. Franks ability to talk about his life so deep; his addiction; his continued fight to be free of all and most be a father. I have so many compliments for this book that I could write 10 pages. I strongly recommend it and be prepared for facts that you may or may not know about the movement; addicts and relating to people we may see everyday never know what battles they are fighting. Great book by all involved; brother Good Luck; keep fighting for what you want out of life and God will take care of the rest. Bless you Thank You again.
