A compelling story of agency; survival; struggle and triumph over adversity More than any other text; The African-American Odyssey illuminates the central place of African-Americans in U.S. history by telling the story of what it has meant to be black in America and how African-American history is inseparably woven into the greater context of American history. From Africa to the 21st century; this book follows the long and turbulent journey of African-Americans; the rich culture they have nurtured throughout their history and the quest for freedom through which African-Americans have sought to counter oppression and racism. This text also recognizes the diversity within the African-American sphere; providing coverage of class and gender and balancing the lives of ordinary men and women with accounts of black leaders and the impact each has had on the struggle for freedom. The only issue I had was trying to match up the questions that are in the 3rd edition with the 4th edition at the end of every chapter. The best way I managed to do this was go to coursesmart and do a free trial of the 4th edition; and highlight all the questions in the 3rd edition that match up to the 4th edition. I'd say about 97% of all the questions are exactly the same; but some questions are actually shorter in the 4th edition than in the 3rd. Overall; I recommend this to students who are looking to save. The information is exactly the same in the 3rd as in the 4th.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Decent as a TextbookBy Summer PeilaSubject matter is interesting. I think it would be nice if then included a more in-depth glossary since so many of the words are foreign; displaying not only the definitiom but also all of the different ways the word is spelled when translated to English0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
