This is the 3rd book with Civil War quilt patterns that I have purchased and it is the BEST ONE!! The instructions for the 50 blocks are for 8" and 12" blocks; so the variations are unlimited. The pictures of the blocks are paired up with a short history of the block and a picture or photo of some historical event; person or item; hence really giving meaning to the quilt. The book provides an unique index of 3 categories: Quilt blocks; Stitchers; and Content --which lists the historical persons and places referenced in the book. Not my favorite Civil War pattern bookBy Quilter GailI wish Barbara had directions for the construction the blocks. Some are very simple and easy but some are a lot more tricky. The star has Y seams and very tricky to sew. The blocks are pretty much Civil War reproduction and classic blocks but some are quite different.
