Fine Use of Primary Sources.By David L.I bought this because my great grandfather; a soldier in the Union cavalry; was captured by the Confederates in this battle and eventually send to Andersonville prison camp. The author has done a wonderful job of collecting primary sources relating to the battle. By and large she lets these sources speak for themselves; a good decision in my opinion. Her own writing is lucid and clear. She's a retired biology teacher; not a professional historian; but she has a good eye for historical detail.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. It's About Time!By Gregory Thomas LittleMs. Moss's book is a welcome treatment of this much ignored battle of the Civil War. Although it wasn't major in the sense that it influenced the inevitable outcome of the War; it nevertheless gave a much needed morale boost to the soldiers in Virginia and for the Confederacy as a whole. For that reason alone this battle should be studied more and and recognized despite any "politically correct" objections.
