ebooks Between Barack and a Hard Place: Racism and White Denial in the Age of Obama by Tim Wise in History

Description

Why did emigrants leave their homeland and move to Minnesota? Where in the state did they settle? What did they do; and how did they organize? How did they maintain their ethnicity? Based on ground-breaking research. Each chapter of They Chose Minnesota describes the unique concerns of individual groups and delves into personal stories. Farmers and factory workers; men; women; and children; families and single people; idealists and pragmatists; people who were devout or irreligious or enthusiastic or fearful; those who cut ties with their homeland or intended to return—all form part of Minnesota's ethnic saga."The work; which covers 60 distinct ethnic groups in 32 chapters; is the most ambitious ethnic research project so far undertaken by any state. If you are a descendant of Icelanders or Lebanese; Greeks or Japanese; you will find interesting material in this book about your forebears and how it was when they settled in Minnesota."—St. Paul Dispatch-Pioneer Press

Clearly; racism continues to be a significant problem despite the steps taken forward and the fact that we have a black President for the first time. If anything; the ugly head of racism has come to the surface with the election of Barack Obama; the evidence and ugliness of that can be found in many comment sections across the net. I am not talking about valid disagreement with his policies and such but name calling and attacks on he and his family in a way I have never seen before with any other President. Tim Wise has posed some serious considerations for all people and I think it's an important read. It is not always an easy read but it does make you consider many truths; I highly recommend it.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. a book everyone human being should read. written by ...By Angelaa book everyone human being should read. written by a caucasian guy who knows the ways of life of how people are treated differently by the color of their skin. eye opening information.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
