Bold Dragoon: The Life of J. E. B. Stuart

ebooks Bold Dragoon: The Life of J. E. B. Stuart by Emory M. Thomas in History

Description

Maya Exodus offers a richly detailed account of how a group of indigenous people has adopted a global language of human rights to press claims for social change and social justice. Anthropologist Heidi Moksnes describes how Catholic Maya in the municipality of Chenalhó in Chiapas; Mexico; have changed their position vis-à-vis the Mexican state—from being loyal clients dependent on a patron; to being citizens who have rights—as a means of exodus from poverty.

I thought it was about the "Bald Dragoon"; but I see Major General J.E.B. Stuart had a full head of hair. Just a little humor I am sure J.E.B would appreciate.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy DON COOKEgood read2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great indepth account of Gen JEB Stuart's lifeBy Tom BetzEmory Thomas has done a great deal of research into JEB Stuart's early life and his exploits both in the Union Cavalry and as the Confederate cavalry general in the Civil War until his death in May 1864. The account is full of stories from those who knew James Stuart as well as from his letters and even a few poems. Thomas brings Stuart to life in these details while giving the historian the factual information they may be looking for about this iconic Confederate hero. The raids around McClellan's Union army are the stories that made Stuart a legend in his own time. Thomas deals with the questions about Stuart's actions at Gettysburg with factual explanations. He describes the gallant general's last days when he was shot; and the efforts his wife and family made to reach him before he expired. Very useful book; especially for me as I am researching Stuart's early days in the Union cavalry when he was in eastern Colorado.
