Well Done OverviewBy kevin baeslerDeeply researched; concisely written overview of the Florida units which fought as part of the Confederate armies in the western theater. The author weaves fascinating details of the pre-war political climate in Florida; personal accounts of soldiers of all ranks; and well written studies of the actions of the Florida units engaged in the major battles in the theater; ranging from Shiloh to Franklin and finally Bentonville. My only (minor) criticism of this otherwise great book is the richly detailed writing somewhat abruptly falls off in the aftermath of the Battle of Nashville until the surrender near Durham; North Carolina; presumably due to the lack of research material; January to May 1865 is covered in 3 pages.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Florida troops go westBy Wayne from FloridaI had just finished a book on the Florida troops in the Army of Northern Virginia and as in that book I was able to place the Florida Regiments in the big picture. Florida units are rarely mentioned even if they are in the thick of a battle. With the Army of Tennessee the Florida units were not united as soon as in Virginia so it was harder to follow them and I am sure harder to research and write about them but Mr Sheppard has done a fine job. Schools; libraries and historians all over Florida need this book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
