From the preface: "It is the purpose of the editor of this volume to present a collection of the most characteristic Sermons; that were preached by the most celebrated divines; who occupied the American pulpits during the period extending from the Repeal of the Stamp Act; in 1766; through the Revolution; to the establishment of peace in 1783. The propriety of the publication of such a collection at the present time must be apparent to readers of all classes. The universal assertion that “the preachers of the Revolution; did not hesitate to attack the great political and social evils of their day;†demands a support; which nothing but the reproduction of their strong; practical appeals; Can afford. As such; this collection is offered. The brief biographical notices prefixed to each sermon are intended simply to indicate the position and character of their respective writers; and to give a rapid sketch of their lives and services. Those who wish for more particular accounts of them; are referred to the various biographical works already published."

Here is a very well written book by the author and it has a different twist to it. Being that this family has two very horrible events happening in their life. It started when Steven; the younger brother was kidnapped and held captive for years. Known as; "My name is Steven; The Little Boy called; It." That was horrible enough for the family; then to have the oldest son; Cary; turn out to be a killer; wow; that's enough to send any member of the family to the grave. For Cary; he was treated as an outcast; when Steven was found. He was totally ignored by his family. The attention all went to Steven. This is no reason to have such deep evil thoughts at a very young age. He had many disorders; but; it was shameful for the family to seek therapy. They had their own demons they didn't want to be exposed. I don't know if truly; you can blame the parents. I am sure they contribute to it; though. But; Cary had his own demons and that's something he lived with and acted upon. Senseless; murders happening to these innocent young children and women. I will never understand how they operate. It is a very confusing thing to comprehend. Even the doctors all have different conclusions. But; nevertheless; he is a killer no matter how you slice the cake or their throats! So sad; for all those victims and their families. I even had remorse for the Stayner family. They didn't raise him to be a troubled soul; or a killer; to be honest. Also; Cary had a lot going for him til he turned to the devil. Mr. Jack Rosewood did such an amazing job writing this book; among all the many other books he writes. I can't find a better author than him. I love his writings; and I can't get enough. I always remember the killer's name and his crimes. This is a very good thing for me; since I have a short memory. But; his books always leave me remembering; Good therapy; thanks; Jack. Usually; I am spooked with the horrible killers; but; for some reason; Cary Stayner; didn't do that to me. When he was committing his crimes; yes; I was squeamish; but; thank God; I could go to sleep better. That's never the norm when I read the authors books. Every killer has a story of his own. Some are more gruesome than others; but Jack; can do a great job in writing all of them; very well. Kudos to Jack; my author!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Chilling true crime story.By Deb Stewart WilliamsJack Rosewood has done it again. One of my favorite true crime writers; Jack puts you in the story by making you feel like you might have been a neighbor or coworker of the killer; or perhaps the victim. In this case; Cary Stayner seems a likable person; with a background that includes the childhood abduction of his; whose ordeal was chronicled in the movie "I Know My First Name Is Steven. Shunted to the backs of his parents minds; Cary grew up feeling abandoned by them. I recommend thusd book to anyone who likes true crime stories about serial killers; in fact I recommend any and all of Jack's books; having read most of them.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A good story by a brilliant writerBy James HeringtonGreat book about a case written with a passion that Jack Rosewood does so well as a true crime writer. His passion of the victims and the murders seem to keep his readers enthralled. I have read many of his works and have become his biggest fan. Anybody that has a deep interest in true crime will be fascinated with this book. Mr. Rosewood doesn't let you down
