His paintings are so life like that I actually had my nose almost touching his painting before I could tell it was a painting and not a photograph. I just started taking oil painting lessons less than 8 months ago. I used to find art museums or exhibitions boring; not this one. I am not a western loving artist by any means. This artist's work captured my soul. My art instructor has gone over so many of his paintings with me showing me the different brush strokes he used in various paintings. What a meticulous artist Charles Fritz is. If you get the chance to see an exhibit; run; don't walk. You won't regret it.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An artists view of the journeyBy mary jane heusingerHaving read the journals of the Lewis and Clark expedition this book was the perfect way to remember the highlights of that adventure. This book has it all: background info of the artist and the paintings; history of the journey and tidbits of quotes and the author's notes. It even includes a map numbered to paintings to help the reader follow the trail! And the paintings; done on location; are beautiful. I wish I could have been peeking over Fritz' shoulder as he viewed his subject.....just like Lewis and Clark! This is the next best thing to being there.7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful and historically accurateBy ordwayCharles Fritz has given us the one thing Jefferson forgot; a painter traveling with Lewis and Clark. I have been to many of these locations along the route of the Corps of Discovery; and it is obvious that Fritz paid attention to detail; both geographically and historically. It is hard to capture the many moods of the expedition; but Fritz seems to have done this on more than one occasion. The paintings are beautifully reproduced along with interesting commentary by the artist. This is a welcome addition to any Lewis and Clark collection.
