ClarkeThis is a great short account of the life and times of the average Union infantryman during the Civil War; enlivened by lots of personal first-hand quotes. Along will Wiley's "Life of Billy Yank" and Robertson's "Soldiers Blue and Gray" it really gives a feeling for what it was like to be a Union soldier.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This book is well written and extremely interesting.By A CustomerMichael McDonald; Downingtown Senior High Book Review: The Civil War Infantryman. The Civil War Infantryman; a fascinating book on the uniforms; equipment; and experiences of the infantry soldier during the American Civil War; by Gregory A. Coco. This book is well written and extremely interesting. It contains 14 chapters divided into 3 part: The Military Organization; Food and Equipment; and Campaigning and Fighting. The author goes into great detail with every subject in the book. Coco uses quotes and first-hand accounts written by the soldiers themselves to help give the reader an insight into the feelings and attitudes of the infantryman. It is a must for anyone interested in the Civil War or military history in general. This reviewer highly recommends The Civil War Infantryman.
