Cold Days in Hell: American POWs in Korea (Williams-Ford Texas AM University Military History Series)

DOC Cold Days in Hell: American POWs in Korea (Williams-Ford Texas AM University Military History Series) by William Clark Latham Jr. in History

Description

The first months of 1945; which brought the long war in Europe to an end; were some of the most remarkable in history. The Allies scored stunning victories; Franklin Roosevelt died; Hitler committed suicide; and finally; in May; the Germans surrendered and celebrations around the world began; even as war in the Pacific raged on. Victory in Europe charts the events of these incredible days.

Outstanding History of Korean War and POW's in KoreaBy Robert DeSmidtI selected this book after reading a news account of a Korean War chaplain awarded the Medal of Honor in April 2013 for his actions while a POW in Korea. I found the book to be an exceptional account; not only of the Korean War POW experience; but of the war itself inlcuding major battles; strategies; and the various controversies that still range over strategy and POW actions. The book tells both sides of these issues and is exceptionally well documented. I read a lot of military books with an emphasis on the POW experience. This book far exceeded my expectations. Many of our WWII heros have passed and age is starting to take many of our Korean heros as well. I was amazed to read the stories of some who survived not only Japenese abuse as POW's in WWII but ALSO a second abusive prisoner experience in Korea.I recomment this book highly!7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. The survivors tell their storiesBy Janet O KleinschmidtOf course I am biased as my dad is one of the POWs interviewed for this book! The stories are heart wrenching truths from the people that lived through unbelievable atrocities at the hands of the North Korean military. Kudos to Colonel Latham for spending years traveling the country to conduct interviews and memorialize these events that have been ignored for far too long.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
