Finally; someone remembers Florida's role in the Civil WarBy Christine Hill LesterAs a 8th generation Floridian who lost a 3rd Great Grandfather in a Union prison; it was fascinating to be able to follow his trail to the battle of Missionary Ridge where he was taken prisoner. I have several other ancestors who fought over the state as volunteers. Although none of them owned any slaves; they felt States rights were important enough to die for and this book written by JJ Dickinson who also served in the Indian Wars; gives the details a genealogist needs to paint a picture.5 of 9 people found the following review helpful. biased but goodBy Allen Spence Jr.This book is biased to make JJ Dickison seem like the Robert E Lee of Florida in the civil war. You can tell that the man did not like blacks by the content of the book. Apart from the bias; the book is REALLY good. Good details of some of his raids and other actions throughout Florida in the Civil War. No mention of killing blacks after the battle of Olustee. Very little about the battle of Olustee. There is a lot of detail about natural bridge and st. mark's. Anyone interested in the Civil War in the state of Florida should read this book.
