ebooks Corsair: The Saga of the Legendary Bent-Wing Fighter-Bomber by Walter A. Musciano in History

Description

This book is a first-of-a-kind comprehensive; photographic essay regarding surviving artifacts of Custer and the Battle of the Little Big Horn – some never before published. Years were spent photographing and acquiring artifacts in museums and private collections; which are presented here in vivid; high-resolution color photographs; shot from various angles with the researcher and collector in mind. The photographs are catalogued under chapters devoted to the battle; Custer's 7th Cavalry; and the Lakota and Cheyenne warriors who fought them. Hundreds of photographic images accompanying the chapters are filled with informative descriptions regarding physical properties; history; origin of the items; and the stories behind them. This definitive work will provide a valuable resource for military researchers and historians; as well as an aesthetically stunning photographic essay to compliment any collection or library.

Not The Full Story of the F4U CorsairBy Mad MaxI had high hopes for the book as I was looking for a publication that told the full history of the F4U Corsair and this book does not deliver. It appears to me there are more photographs of people than aircraft; including Japanese admirals; Douglas MacArthur; and Kim Il Sung; North Korea's famous founding father. The Korean War totally lacks in quality photographs and with only 2 photos of the AU-1 and one of those is a Vought Aircraft picture. There is nothing on the Navy or Marine Reserves use of the aircraft. If you're looking for information on foreign users outside of the British Commonwealth forget it. There are 7 pictures of French aircraft; 3 of which are factory shots; 2 Honduran; and 2 of Argentine. The foreign users are found in an appendix and do not even constitute a chapter. Overall I'm greatly disappointed and sending the book back.4 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Surprisingly great book on the Corsair and those who flew it.By Chuck Dinges MsgtBack around 1969 - 1970 (no copyright date can be found in it) Walter Musciano wrote a hard back book of 136 pages called; "Saga of the Bent-Wing Birds" "Corsair Aces in the Solomons". For it's day it was a good book but not a great book. This book is a truly great book about the Corsair and those who flew it. If one is looking for a book that emphasizes the technical aspect of the aircraft and desiring a huge number of rare photos of the aircraft itself this would not be the book for that. However; if one is looking for a story of the aircraft; it's basic development and many detailed stories of those who flew it; this is the book for them. The book photos are more of those who flew the plane rather than of the plane itself. Many of the photos are of the pilot with or in the Corsair that he flew. I have been collecting books and studying WWII aircraft since about 1959 and have a two room library containing thousands of books on that topic and this book certainly has a prominate place in my library. After reading the first review of this book I had a very pleasent surprise when I received my copy.3 of 6 people found the following review helpful. The best Corsair book in my collectionBy Gary R. FairfullI am not certain why the other review slammed this book so bad. I have a least two dozen publications on the Corsair and I must say this one is the finest. Many of the pictures have not been published before; especially those on the F2G and the air-racers. I do not see a book full of people pictures and I have yet to find a MacArthur image. The historical information is bang on and it should be; this is the authors second book on the Corsair. I highly recommend this book to everyone and the price is best here () as well. This book is a must have for the aviation enthusiast; Corsair fan; or historian. The other reviewer must have been upset with his credit card statement or something; I am baffled as to why he shot this book down in the manner that he did. Buy this with confidence.
