The writing is not original either; I got the same words from research of the articles here. It is a nightmare to read; and I would not wish this book on my worst enemy. The chapters are too long and laborious. I have to agree with someones review on using cross culturalism for culturalism. What I mean is using Jewish; women; gay population the write is not really focusing on cultural diversity. Cross culturalism is different from culturalism I think he makes this note somewhere in this book. I had to endure for my multicultural counseling class. I will not sell this book or give it free because in my opinion it belongs in the trash; every one claims to be a writer and specialist on culturalism.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. But I don't see any Knapsack!By JayrichardsI must admit that as a European American I dip into my "knapsack of privileges" daily. I recognize that I am of the majority culture; and that; just by virtue of that fact; I can get an apartment to rent with no problem much faster than my African American or Latino counterpart. If I refuse to admit that; then I need to engage in conversation with my African American or Latino counterpart until I do realize that. So goes the argument of Mr. Diller. Using dated scenarios and breaking the unwritten rule of not using outdated research; Mr. Diller takes us on a trip to a bleak cultural world where everyone is at a disadvantage except for the 'white male'. Filled with tired stereotypes and a hint of nostalgia for the days when he could get away with saying such things with no current research evidence; "Cultural Diversity" might just fool you if you're not discerning enough to look behind the curtain and see that the wizard really doesn't have much substance.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Only a moderate amount of ethnocentricity and bigotry in this book; so maybe it is better than most on this subject.By PuffindocFrom what I hear the books on this subject are largely political propaganda. After reading the reviews of this book and hearing stories from others about this course in other programs - I was expecting much worse bigotry against white people and American culture. There is the occasional enthnocentric; racist comment on how white people are different; worse than people from other races - but this happens only a few times rather than in every chapter; or in every section of a chapter. Most of the material is a description of how to avoid prejudice rather then a political diatribe on how bad white America is.I do not see a single element anywhere in the book that gives data comparing cultural and racial bias among various populations. The World Values Survey - the most reliable source for measures of cultural values - recently showed that the USA had the least prejudiced culture in the world. For anyone who travels this has been obvious for a very long time; but it seems to escaped the notice of the sources and authors of this book.
