Buford and his decision to make the stand along Herr's Ridge and points west of Gettysburgh on 1 July; 1863. Even Buford knew that his Cavalry would not be able to hold off Hill's people indefinitely. This book touchs on the heroics of the other brigade from the 1st Corps that really did make the difference that day . Cutler's brigade has been overlooked by the mainstream historians for far too long. While this book by McClean has been around for awhile and in turn isn't readily available. It is a book that should be in every serious student of the Battle of Gettysburghs' printed holdings. The maps put this book over the top. According to the author he will possibly be doing an update sometime in the future . I look forward to that effort and will not hesitate to add it to stand side by side with this earlier treatment of this heroic brigade.7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Cutler's brigade at GettysburgBy mark spierenburgThis book is a good example of how a brigade history must be written. It tells us about one off the brigades that acompished very much in the morning encounter on the first day of the battle of Gettysburg. For every regiment their stories before gettysburg are well detailed and easily to read. (even for a foreigner) Furthermore it tells us stories we did not expect in a book like this. About what after gettysburg; what happened to the wounded; the prisonners; the dead and the survivors. Of course the part about the fiirst and third day's fightings is well detailed. A minus; the pictures are not very clear; it is not very easy to see what they tlet you see and actually the don't tell us anything. A good book; must be in every gettysburg librarie.
