Darkwater (The Oxford W. E. B. Du Bois): Voices from Within the Veil

ePub Darkwater (The Oxford W. E. B. Du Bois): Voices from Within the Veil by W. E. B. Du Bois in History

Description

Hailed by the Los Angeles Times as "a brisk; exciting tour of Russia's long journey from its Kievan origins;" Russia: A History cuts through the myths and mystery that have surrounded this nation from its earliest days; with startling revelations from classified archives that until recently were not even known to exist. A distinguished team of historians has stripped away the propaganda of the past to tell the definitive story of Russia; from tenth-century Kiev and Muscovy through empire and revolution to the fall of Communism and the "new order" of the early 21st century. What emerges is a nation of extremes--of imperial opulence and abject poverty; tyrannical power and subversive resistance; artistic achievement and economic crisis; glittering cities and frozen steppes. A compelling story in its own right; it is essential reading for anyone with an interest in Russia and its place in the world. This new edition has been thoroughly updated to take into account developments under Vladimir Putin.

Filled with mysticism and harsh reality; this compilation of essays and poems provides amazBy RonnieProvides amazing insight into the political; social; and cultural world of circa 1910 America and the world. I was fascinated by the similarities between Due Bois' observations on his times and my views of contemporary America. The more things change the more they remain the same.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Timeless assessment of the USABy ShellieAlthough the book was written about 100-years ago; in true DuBois predictive fashion; it is a timely assessment of America today.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Excellent ReadBy Unique FindingsThis book is definitely one for culturally diverse people; it's still relevant today as are the situations and conditions. W.E.B. DuBois is a prolific writer. He definitely masters the art of story-telling; the book has a sense of humor; his memory recall is engaging and empowering. I would recommend this book.
