As they advanced their careers; in the U.S. Army Reserve; their friendship also deepened. When I entered the picture; they were both Captains. Their continued education by way of Command Staff; Army War College; and many other areas was always a priority with each of them.I am the widow of Col. Williams and found this to be a very poignant tribute; from one soldier to the other. The day before Bill died; Col. Southern sat by his bedside for many hours; relating the revisit to Korea; as the book was only a draft form.I have also heard from others in their unit; who also enjoyed the "letter format".
