Description

Pilot; scholar; daredevil; general . . . James ""Jimmy"" Doolittle was one of America's greatest heroes. In a life filled with adventure and achievement; Doolittle did it all. As a stunt pilot; he thrilled the world with his aerial acrobatics. As a scientist; he pioneered the development of modern aviation technology. During World War II; he served his country as a fearless and innovative air warrior; organizing and leading the devastating raid against Japan. Now; for the first time; here is his life story - modest; revealing; and candid as only Doolittle himself can tell it. Doolittle tells a story of the sucesses and adventures; the triumphs and tragedies of a true American hero - a far-seeing leader whose courage; devotion; and daring changed the course of modern history . . . and continues to make its influence felt to this day.

Pelican Publishing Company in Louisiana was the publisher; and the month it came out; the Military Book Club selected it for their readership. I'm extremely proud of their efforts. John Wayne and John Carroll played out the story in the "Flying Tiger" movie; which I believe was released in 1942.Of course; I'm partial; but I highly recommend this book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A good history of the Flying Tigers in ChinaBy J. B. WileyA good history of the AVG (American Volunteer Group) - otherwise known as the "Flying Tigers" in China during World war II. My personal interest came about because an uncle of mine; Tom Cotton; is featured in the book. Tom survived the war and became one of the founders of Flying Tigers Airlines (now a part of Delta Airlines). Good action sequences and lots of historical tidbits I had not seen elsewhere.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. DING HAO - 5 STARSBy Betty ShortMy husband co-authored this book. When it was first published by Pelican Publishing Company in Louisiana;the military book club liked it so much; they chose to offer it to their members. Not too long after thehardback book was printed; there was a fire at Pelican; destroying all remaining hardbacks. So; I likechecking from time-to-time to see if one in good condition is available. I'm grateful to Book Department for making this possible.
