She gave good reasons as to why she did not: "Because notes can distract the reader; and because this book focuses on reinterpretation of accepted facts rather than on disputing the facts themselves; I have avoided using notes." P.217However I like to seperate out fact to have the option to form my own opinion. There were points in the book where Lindsey made it clear that emotions or thoughts were being speculated about: "[Catherine] must have wondered; bitterly; if the new king of Scots would one day be king of England". However at other times it is not clear: "Jane Grey; miserably unhappy in her new marriage...was now queen." Without notes I'm wondering how we know Lady Grey was unhappy.Karen Lindsey does offer me assistance with my thirst for knowledge; there is a good bibliography so I will do my own further reading. Overall an enjoyable read; with some excellent food for thought.15 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Lindsey's personal take on Henry's wivesBy cyberpigletIf you can stand back and appreciate Karen Lindsey's book as a personal - rather than feminist - interpretation of the six wives of Henry VIII; there is much to enjoy in this book. Her theory concerning Henry's negative reaction to Anne of Cleves is very amusing and as likely to be near the truth as any other I've read. Lindsey ;however; lacks objectivity in pursuing her subject and makes it clear from the outset that she is firmly in Anne Boleyn's camp. Actions that she attacks in the case of Jane Seymour are summarily excused in Anne Boleyn - although both women were in essentially the same situation. For one well grounded in Tudor history this book makes a diverting read. Readers in search of a solid history of Henry's six wives should look elsewhere.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. It is finally available.....again!!!!!!By L. Bednarskiwas shocked when I went on .com and immediately found this book. in my "pre days" 10; 15 years ago..was told this book was out of print. accidentally sold it at a garage sale and a year later; wanted another copy. Book arrived in pristine condition. forgot what a nice write up author has on each wife of Henry VIII. As a student/curious reader of the Tudor- Elizabethan age...this book is a treat!
