This body of work is timely and much needed. Tyson uses the hip hop medium in its most raw and revolutionary form to impart a message of struggle and freedom to all who are willing to listen. We find ourselves in the shadow of the black liberation movements of the 60s and 70s; in what many are now calling the era of Black Lives Matter where black people and other oppressed groups are still fighting for their basic rights to life; liberty; and happiness. The same unresolved issues of the 18th; 19th; and 20th centuries have once again taken center stage for the world to see. Black Boy Poems reflects that understand that you cannot keep a people oppressed indefinitely; they will eventually stand up and demand what's theirs. As Tyson says in his poem The Dirge; “...The government doesn't care about an entire generation. We are the only ones who care about an entire generation. Therefore; we are the only ones who can save an entire generation." Black Boy Poems reiterates the demand for black people and all oppressed peoples to manifest their freedom and liberation by any means necessary. You will be challenged by this work. MillerOnce you are introduced to it; the Dyatlov Pass incident has a way of grabbing hold of you and not letting go. This book gives an excellent account of the case and provides a detailed discussion of the most compelling theories of what happened to these unfortunate hikers. Be aware though that a couple of the included photos; although fascinating from an historical perspective; are quite disturbing to look at.The true strength of the book derives from its clear and tidy presentation of the facts in the case. Plus it provides interesting tidbits of information not found elsewhere. On that fatal night; nine hale and hearty; highly experienced ski hikers mysteriously died. Igor Dyatlov; Team Leader; and eight others: Zinaida Kolmogorova; Lyudmila Dubinina; Alexander Kolevatov; Rustem Slobodin; Yuri (Georgiy) Krivonischenko; Yuri Doroshenko; Nicolai Thibeaux-Brignolles; and Semyon Zolotariov perished under the most odd circumstances.When they failed to reach their return spot on time; parents and friends began to ask for a search party. But Yuri Yudin; who had been the tenth member of the group before illness and chronic pain made hi turn back; said Dyatlov had added time to the group’s return due to extra weight caused by dividing Yuri’s burden among themselves. But that time passed as well; and a rescue mission found the tent deserted; cut through from inside; and a trail of footprints leading downhill into the forest. They had gone into negative centigrade temperatures in various states of undress.Two bodies; Krivonischenko and Doroshenko; were discovered at a large cedar; where the group had started a fire. Three; Dyatlov; Kolmogorova and Slobodin; were found between the cedar and the tent; obviously trying to make it back.But it would be until May fourth that the last four bodies were found; buried under several meters of snow in a ravine where they had partially created a shelter. Three of these bodies were horribly inquired; two; Dubinina and Zolotarev had badly crushed chests; and Thibeaux-Brignolles suffered a major skull fracture. Dubinuna was missing her eyes; tongue; and upper lip; which has been a subject of controversy since.This covers the history of the event. What the authors have done is to present the known facts as clearly as possible; leaving out any “fact†that is actually speculation. They then begin to examine the plethora of theories that have been presented as possible solutions.As with most theories about unexplained phenomena; the theories are nice; but to make them fit the case often means either ignoring certain facts; or proposing things not indicated by facts. The authors then proceed to make their own theory known. Like the others; it is a bit of a stretch; but the authors are perfectly aware of that fact.The point made by these authors; in this book (which I recommend to serious researchers of the Dyatlov Pass Incident); is that theories are all well and good—but the fact remains that no one knows what really happened that fatal night. The only people who knew the real reason for abandoning the tent without protective clothing; to the merciless weather and bitter cold. All but three would die from hypothermia; and the other three died from injuries compared to an auto hitting them at sixty mph.This book presents the facts in an orderly fashion; deals with other theories with due respect; and admits that their own theory has problems as well. My hat is off to these authors for such honesty and integrity. In unsolved mystery investigations; many insist upon their own theory even if it is shoddy at best. Complete honesty is a breath of fresh air. I give these brave authors five out of five stars! Still perplexed after the autopsies by various Doctors; reports from rescuers and other government authority's. Why was the area closed off for three years. Another incident happened in the 1970s almost identical. Researchers running from there tent; perishing in the same manner. Dyatlov Pass does keep it's secrets. Author stayed with the stated reports/facts of the Incident. Some authors try and put there outer world explanations to this incident but come no closer to the truth. excellent read.
