Description

2013 Reprint of 1957 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition; not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. Joel Augustus Rogers (1880-1966) was a Jamaican-American author; journalist; and historian who contributed to the history of Africa and the African diaspora; especially the history of African Americans in the United States. His research spanned the academic fields of history; sociology and anthropology. He challenged prevailing ideas about race; demonstrated the connections between civilizations; and traced African achievements. He was one of the greatest popularizers of African history in the 20th century. Roger's work is a compendium of "amazing facts" he presents to confirm the Black man's central position in World History. It is a comprehensive sketch compiled from various scholarly sources. Among other things; Rogers provides to support that the Biblical Jews were indeed a black people.

Diary of an Eastern Front Wermacht soldierBy CustomerThis book describes war on the eastern front of WW2 from the point of view of the "frontschweine" (front pigs); a description of which the German soldiers were inordinately proud. The author; Hans Roth; writes his journal in simple but effective; style. Despite being faced by superior numbers they believed in themselves being able to fight and win in most situations. Never mind facing death from enemy actions; the conditions in which they lived; for example waterlogged trenches; poor clothing; sometimes poor; or even no; food; the lack of adequate rest; and transport difficulties; show just how tough and long-suffering these soldiers were. The author describes his love for his family in his journal; which comes to an end in 1944; when he went missing. An interesting point is that the author hardly ever mentions Hitler or National Socialism; but he indicates that he fights for his country.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A MUST read for anyone interested in the horrors of the Eastern FrontBy VictorThis is THE best source for an account of the bitter realities faced by German Landser on the Eastern Front. His completely unvarnished descriptions cover all aspects of what the experience of that barbaric abetoire really was. From the viscous; no quarter combat; to the mass starvation of the Ukraine and the actions of the Einsatzgruppen; he details all aspects of this very different war. Most memoirs are coloured to avoid the guilt of the German forces in the East; and tend to emphasize the "honourable" actions of the German front line soldier. Here we see not only the ideological attachments to Nazi ideology; but the psychological pressures placed on the Landser; participating in the most brutal combat of the this (perhaps any) war. Nor does he hide the primitive brutality of the Russian forces; and its effects on the psyche of the Landser. To understand the true nature of this conflict; this book is the most honest; most detailed account available. If you have not read this book; you do not know the extent of the horrors; suffering; and courage which characterized both sides in this conflict. A must read for both academics and history buffs.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Well written and graphicBy CustomerWell written and very graphic account of the day to day life of an Eastern Front soldier. The day to day was far worse than I could have imagined - and I have been reading military history for well over 40 years.
