Although I'm only one chapter in; I've encountered information I know well from original source material presented with erroneous conclusions (specifically; the jury finding in the Paul Jones v George W. Jones case tried in Lancaster; Wisconsin in 1838). Not only is the year incorrectly presented as 1842; this book claims that Paul won the case; when in fact he lost under very dramatic circumstances. In checking the footnote (#46); I find the author references page 214 of a 28 page text and page 66 of a text where Paul's name appears only twice (once in the index referencing its inclusion in a list). The trial finding this footnote asserts to support is nowhere addressed in the referenced text. I will finish reading this book but am already alerted to the possibility of specious research. Very disappointing; considering the praise given this work by academics and the credentials of the author.
