Spiritual formation is "trending topic" these days; and interest in spiritual growth and spiritual practices is increasing daily. As Evangelicals; we needed a good; historical guide to help prevent us from drifting into unbiblical practices and we need the examples that Dr. Schwanda provides throughout this gem of a book. This book includes readings from both well known and lesser known authors; and it includes a wonderful array of hymns (which are often original or lesser known stanzas) that display the rich theology and spirituality of early Evangelicals. This book is a MUST for anyone serious about understanding Christian spirituality. It will afford one a solid; historical and (most importantly) biblical foundation in spirituality.
