Expecting something different; instead got something MUCH better!By LumberjackAxeI thought this was going to be a non-fictional account of a guy who debriefed American POW pilots; and basically a first hand description of what all these different POWs must have said.INSTEAD; the author apparently took all those experiences he heard from the POWs and combined them all into one fictional pilot who gets shot down and returns home. This is even BETTER than what I was expecting; because instead of a collection of disjointed stories; it is a fusion of all of them into one coherent story line. The actual prose is very high quality as well; even a layman could pick this up and understand everything going on.If you are reading this; then buy it... it is 4.99; less than a five dollar foot long. Skip lunch one day and buy this instead.Oh actually; I do have one complaint... the cover art could be better!4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Fascinating life-or-death talesBy Midwest Book ReviewEscape From Korea is the personal story of John J. Fischer; a veteran marine aviator who served in the Korean War. John's military career began in 1942 and he flew combat missions in World War II; the Bay of Pigs; and on the beginning onset of what was to become the Vietnam War. Part of John's service involved debriefing those fellow aviators who were captured yet succeeded in escaping and braved terrible odds with the goal of rescue. From these true stories; Fischer presents a compelling military anthology of fascinating life-or-death tales. In this highly recommended selection of case stories and deadly challenges to human survival; the reader is provided a kind of "window" into what life as a combatant in the Korean "police action" was truly like.
