DOC Esther's Children by From The Jewish Publication Society in History

Description

Politics is concerned with citizenship and the administration of justice--how communities are formed and governed. The role of Christians in the political process is hotly contested; but as citizens; Francis Beckwith argues; Christians have a rich heritage of sophisticated thought; as well as a genuine responsibility; to contribute to the shaping of public policy. In particular; Beckwith addresses the contention that Christians; or indeed religious citizens of any faith; should set aside their beliefs before they enter the public square. What role should religious citizens take in a liberal democracy? What is the proper separation of church and state? What place should be made for natural rights and the moral law within a secular state? This cogent introduction to political thought surveys political science; politics and government while making the case for how statecraft may genuinely contribute to soulcraft. Politics for Christians is part of The Christian Worldview Integration Series.

Review
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. great bookBy Joan PeterdiThis is a treasure of a book. Even if we are not Iranian; or even Jewish; we can learn a lot here. Persian/Iranian Jewry is the focal point; but the overall context clarifies much about the history of Iran and the entire Middle East — immensely helpful these days. Erudite essays by various scholars on varying subjects bring forward issues seldom explored elsewhere. Hooshang Ebrami's essay "The Impure Jew" is arguably the best I've ever read on the nuts-and-bolts of anti- Semitism (anti-Judaism) existing throughout the Middle East; not only in Iran. Color illustrations are sumptuous. Archival (and more recent photos) in black-and-white and in color are poignant — every face tells its story; buildings come to life; especially the interiors of synagogues. A rich experience; would make a wonderful gift.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful BookBy Margarete H. RasselNot exactly what I thought it was going to be; but it is a beautiful and expensive book. I wish it were easier to read; but it is heavy and awkward.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Steven Paschgood book; very difficult to find
