HankinsonThis is the fourth version of the History of the Church by Eusenius that I have. The first is a traditional translation from the 1800s and is very accurate; complete and a little stilted in language but has excellent notes. It is by Williamson. The second is a relatively modern translation. They are both good and complete inso far as notes and original appendices. I also have a late 1800s translation which has been significantly bauderized and heavily edited by a turn of the century fundamentalist--he even left out the appendices listing the Roman Emperors and Bishops of the major Cities and the lists of books contained in the New Testament as it existed in 325. It is biased trash. This present edition by Cruse is a pleasant addition. The language used is comfortable and pleasant and to the best of my ability to determine is an honest and accurate translation. It does not have the extensive notes found in G. A Williamson's classic edition but has great end notes and additional historical documents. I recommend this current translation by Cruse.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Matthew 28:19 is quoted from the original!By Bible TranslatorGreat book. I bought "Church History from another translator. This one is a complete translation. I loved the quotes taken from the Bible in Eusebius'time. In particular Matthew 28:19. From Eusebius'account and quote we discover that "Father; Son and Holy Spirit" were added and "My Name" was taken out. Beautiful book with plenty of Bible quotes. Also enjoyed Eusebius'quote of Psalms 19:4; which reminded me immediately of the Apostles.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Great First Hand History of the Early ChurchBy LexOrandiThis is agreat book to understand the early Church. To fully understand how the Church developed it is necessary to read early primary sources written in that era. This book is a classic. The book has 475 pages and covers many aspects of the early Church. It discusses early Christians and also the people that had to interact with. I have found it an excellent reference book when I have studied this period to give me a different perspective on history.
