Description

Empress Wu Zetian (624-705 AD) was the only woman to be the sovereign ruler of imperial China. A teenage concubine of the Tang Emperor Taizong; she seduced his son while the emperor lay dying. Recalled from a nunnery as part of an intricate court power-game; she caused the deaths of two lady rivals; before securing her enthronement as the Emperor Gaozong’s consort. She ruled in the name of her husband and two eldest sons; presiding over the pinnacle of the Silk Road; before proclaiming herself the founder of a new dynasty. Worshipped as the Sage Mother of Mankind and reviled as the Treacherous Fox; she was deposed aged 79; after angry courtiers murdered her two young lovers. The subject of countless books; plays and films; Empress Wu remains a feminist icon and a bugbear of Chinese conservatism. Jonathan Clements weighs the evidence of her life and legacy: so charismatic that she could rise from nothing to the height of medieval power; so hated that her own children left her tombstone blank.

Most of the photos are new; and the few I've seen before over the years are presented in better clarity and; more importantly; more accurate captioning information. Lots of surprises; or should I say shocks. The three volumes will not only make the best reading reference on the 190; but a pretty good investment. Years down the road there won't be too many willing sellers so don't miss out. So; Mr. Creek is there a remote chance we see a Volume 4 with any new information you've received after publishing the first three volumes?4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Excellent reading reference on the Fw-190.By GioacchinoChiantThe well-received praise given the first two volumes also applies to this third volume. The three volumes will make for excellent reading reference on the Fw-190.This third volume of the Fw-190 story is as thorough and comprehensive as the first two. Besides the ample number of photos; numerous colored plates there are detailed drawings. Included; also; are the "experimental" projects with as much information as available. Add to this the stories of the pilots themselves and the battle that raged over Germany; the Author has constructed a comprehensive study of the Fw-109.The only place this volume is week on was Allied experiences with captured machines and flight-testing.With that said; any one who clams to be and expert on the Luftwaffe this book and it's companions are a must.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. You Think You Know Your Wulfs?By R. A. PetroThis third volume of the FW-190 story is as thorough and comprehensive as the first two. Besides hundreds of photos; detailed drawings and copious color plates; there are the stories of the pilots themselves and the battles over Germany in the later stages of the war. Included; also; are the "experimental" projects (sorry; no UFO's here but a number of very unusual designs) with as much factual information as available. For any Luftwaffe "Experten"; this book and it's companions are a must.
