A treasure tove of irmation and argumentBy Andrew J McKennaHis deserves al the plaudits cited on its back cover. It covers every corner of the slavery debate. It is particularly interesting about the fact that our Constitution does not contain the "s" word; reflecting a flagrant scandal. The Founding Fathers could not bring themselves to name an institution that was debated constantly in their organizing sessions. It enlightens us on the scrupulous semantic debates informing the issue. History at its best: thorough; clear; coherent.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Monumental work!By Darrell CriswellThis is a fantastic work on the order of Robert Caro's books about LBJ. I could never understand the exact origins of the civil war; he explains exactly what happened. He did this by going back to the original writings of the republicans before and during the war. Everybody else's explanations never made sense to me; he clears everything up and reveals what a wonderful origin the republican party had!
