Stalin’s Reign of terror in the Soviet Union has been called “the other holocaust.†During the Stalin years; it is thought that more innocent men; women; and children perished than in Hitler’s destruction of the European Jews. Many millions died in Stalin’s Gulag of torture prisons and forced labor camps; yet others survived and were freed after his death in 1953.

What Bill does is take the "double latte debate" from the coffee shop and bring it home to the conflicting moral; legal; and ethical dilemmas the American Soldier has had to resolve at the gritty tactical level (and personal home front). He does this by juxtaposing the aftermath of his experiences with a living account of the war from his perspective. Furthermore; it provides a good read on the effects of "conventional FOB mentality" as it exacerbates and alienates the very people we need to secure and safeguard. Finally; this books explains why we (as a Nation); need men who can live by; with; and through the very communities we are trying to liberate.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A Must Read-Is History Repeating? Or Did It Ever End?By savjkI read this book twice. i have been a student of the Middle East and the history of war for decades. There are some very thought provoking insights you don't pick up the first time around. This excellent book has multiple dimensions and multiple lessons aside from the author's own struggles. Like life itself; very little is black or white. The reason i went back and read this book again was because what has been recently happening in Iraq and Syria with the re-introduction of US ground troops in the fight against ISIS. Not just "advisors"-front line ground troops-and our VERY BEST at that.. . I wanted to be sure i understood the author's lessons from the first round. Is it different this time?1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I highly recommend this bookBy ShayrayThis book was both difficult to read and hard to put down. I found myself staying up into the night reading just one more page. The introduction hooked me and I was engrossed until the end. Bill Edmonds writes about the obviously difficult experience of the Iraq war and its effect on him and his family. It gives an insight into the bravery that it takes to survive the emotional and moral scars of war. I highly recommend this book.
