Golda

audiobook Golda by Elinor Burkett in History

Description

Waking Giant is a brilliant; definitive history of America’s vibrant and tumultuous rise during the Jacksonian era from David S. Reynolds; the Bancroft Prize-winning author of Walt Whitman’s America. Casting fresh light on Andrew Jackson; who redefined the presidency; along with John Quincy Adams and James K. Polk; who expanded the nation’s territory and strengthened its position internationally; Reynolds captures the turbulence of a democracy caught in the throes of the controversy over slavery; the rise of capitalism; and the birth of urbanization.

The author does not assume that Golda could do no wrong. She is presented with all of her foibles as well as strengths. The extremely complex world of Israel and the Middle East culture/politics are also presented in a balanced way. The rather sad aspect to this book is that the same challenges still exist decades after Golda tried to resolve them.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A forgotten hero.By AgnesA woman well ahead of her time that made things happen. Too bad so few people remember her. She made history and did so in very difficult times for women in general but especially for a woman trying to lead a nation.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great read.By Joseph M. HughesA good read showing both the good and bad of a very significant human being. She gave it her all. Let history be the judge.
