Who were the Hessians? Why were Germans fighting in the American Revolutionary War? Why were they fighting for the British? Edward J. Lowell’s classic text on the German mercenaries in the Revolutionary War explains all of these questions as well as many others. From the princes that ruled them to the troops themselves; Lowell gives a complete overview of these men that travelled to another country to fight for a cause that was not their own. These troops were involved in some of the most pivotal battles of the Revolution; from their first at Long Island; to Trenton; Stillwater and Saratoga. These professional soldiers were involved from the beginning of the war; and it was only on 25th November 1783; two years after the fall of Yorktown; that the last Hessians sailed down the Bay of New York back towards Germany. The Hessians and the Other German Auxiliaries of Great Britain in the Revolution is essential reading for anyone interested in the in the Revolutionary Wars and the soldiers who fought within it. Edward J. Lowell was a historian and lawyer from the United States. He first gained interest in the German involvement in the Revolutionary Wars after a trip abroad. It was first published as a series of letters in The New York Times but later published as a book in 1884. He died ten years later in 1894.

Every Holocaust Testimonial deserves FIVE STARS from all readers.By Kindle CustomerEvery Holocaust Testimonial has received a FIVE STAR rating from me. I have read at least 50 over the past couple of years. First on my kindle Touch and now on my kindle Voyage.I highly recommend if you are not familiar with that part of history to pick any of the titles. Personally I try to stick with the below $5 price range for any kindle book but I do maintain a Wishlist of Holocaust-related titles between $5 and $11; I will get them all eventually.I am not good at writing reviews; I struggled all through school with book report requirements too. I have given all these books five stars just because doesn't offer the option for more than 5.I feel we all as members of the human race should be reading these testimonials and offering prayers for the souls of the victims of this tragic period as well as to show respect for the survivors and their descendants.6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. UnforgettableBy elaine whinstonThis is the story of two sisters who were separated from their family when Paris was invaded by the Nazis during WWII. Over their childhood years their circumstances changed as their situation changed. After years of living in various homes and conditions until at last they were adopted by an American couple and they became Americans themselves. A very emotional book and I recommend it highly.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. VERY WELL DONEBy Kindle CustomerThis true story is something that all people of all ages should read. The author caught the atmosphere of the children's lives.I suppose that some people are unable to imagine the possibility of this ever happening again; but I must put emphasis on the fact that this occurred LESS than one hundred years ago. In fact; only one generation ago! This book would be an excellent mandatory high school reader!!
