Over the past decade; Mary Pipher has been a great source of wisdom; helping us to better understand our family members. Now she connects us with the newest members of the American family--refugees. In cities all over the country; refugees arrive daily. Lost Boys from Sudan; survivors from Kosovo; families fleeing Afghanistan and Vietnam: they come with nothing but the desire to experience the American dream. Their endurance in the face of tragedy and their ability to hold on to the virtues of family; love; and joy are a lesson for Americans. Their stories will make you laugh and weep--and give you a deeper understanding of the wider world in which we live. The Middle of Everywhere moves beyond the headlines into the homes of refugees from around the world. Working as a cultural broker; teacher; and therapist; Mary Pipher has once again opened our eyes--and our hearts--to those with whom we share the future.

Many observers; many Gurus - An academic work about the lives of the Lotus BornBy Buddhist from SouthBecause there is already a quite good review explaining in detail the structure and content of the book; I`d just like to add that these nam thars (Complete Liberation) are not an amusing reading. They are more like teachings in the form of fairy tales; not to be taken literally; altough there are common elements in the differents life storys of Guru Rinpoche. In these particular Nam Thars there is a mix of historical accounts with elements out our common frame of time and space; so it could be difficult to us.I`m greatful with the humble and devoted translator Ngawang Zangpo; for his work in this book; his introductory chapter was actually the most important; enjoyble and informative for me. Besides I was particularly interested on his disscusion about translation issues; he shows the key points in a high standar translation.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A well wriiten modern intrepretation of the Life and practices of Padmasambhava.By CustomerWell written; though; for those of us who began our study of Vajrayana (Tibetan/Esoteric) Buddhism in the late 70's and early 80's there is not a lot of new material here but it still belongs in your library.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
