It starts with the first settlers who probably arrived from Tahiti and then moves on to Captain Cook's arrival and the eventual colonization by the Europeans and the Americans. The differences in the various ethnic groups from China; Japan; the Philippines; and Portugal brought to the islands to work on the sugar plantations are thoroughly explained. From there the author moves into the development of Hawaii's short period of independence to the annexation of the islands by the United States to statehood.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Although I did not like reading what was statedBy esme marconiAlthough I did not like reading what was stated; it's an important book to read if you are from the islands. Reading this book was an eye opener for me and I understand why certain races were made to feel superior to others.
