He Leadeth Me: An Extraordinary Testament of Faith

audiobook He Leadeth Me: An Extraordinary Testament of Faith by Walter J. Ciszek S.J.; Daniel L. Flaherty S.J. in History

Description

Race is a known fiction―there is no genetic marker that indicates someone's race―yet the social stigma of race endures. In the United States; ethnicity is often positioned as a counterweight to race; and we celebrate our various hyphenated-American identities. But Vilna Bashi Treitler argues that we do so at a high cost: ethnic thinking simply perpetuates an underlying racism. In The Ethnic Project; Bashi Treitler considers the ethnic history of the United States from the arrival of the English in North America through to the present day. Tracing the histories of immigrant and indigenous groups―Irish; Chinese; Italians; Jews; Native Americans; Mexicans; Afro-Caribbeans; and African Americans―she shows how each negotiates America's racial hierarchy; aiming to distance themselves from the bottom and align with the groups already at the top. But in pursuing these "ethnic projects" these groups implicitly accept and perpetuate a racial hierarchy; shoring up rather than dismantling race and racism. Ultimately; The Ethnic Project shows how dangerous ethnic thinking can be in a society that has not let go of racial thinking.

Not just for Catholics; the "Refiner's fire" and the evolution of faith.By Phil from DownunderThis is one of the best books I have read on man's search for meaning; and finding the Will of God. It doesn't have miraculous healings; or mass conversions. But it does have evidence of the work of the Holy Spirit both within and around a man who kept trying to go further with his vocation to find the will of God. It is beautifully simply written. He was clearly a man of uncomplicated thinking; a stubborn strength of character; and by also by grace; a strong enough physical constitution to survive 5 years solitary confinement and northern Siberian labour camps for 15 years!6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Discover God's will for your life ........By Paul C. CroninThis was one of the best books I have ever read. Fr. Ciszek's reflections on discerning the will of God and accepting every moment of every day; good and bad; as God's will has been a tremendous help in my spiritual life. I have already purchased another copy of this as a gift and plan on giving away several more copies. Highly recommend it for anyone seeking to know God's will in their life.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The title tells the storyBy savnickA truly inspiring account from a spiritual perspective of a Catholic Priest imprisoned and continually persecuted by the Communist Government of the Soviet Union for 23 years. In spite of this Fr. Ciszek recounts many instances that his Faith in God allowed him to survive and minister to others. He was particularly impressed with the Faith of the Russian people surviving in spite of continual persecution and indoctrination against their Faith. Don't miss reading this book.
