Hidden Warbirds II: More Epic Stories of Finding; Recovering; and Rebuilding WWII's Lost Aircraft

DOC Hidden Warbirds II: More Epic Stories of Finding; Recovering; and Rebuilding WWII's Lost Aircraft by Nicholas A. Veronico in History

Description

What do Osama bin Laden; Adolph Hitler; David Koresh; Jim Jones; Gene Applewhite; and the slayers of abortion doctors all have in common? All of them based their dangerous and destructive actions; to a large extent; on a message they believed they received from God. The receipt of messages from God is known by many religions as 'spiritual gifts theology.' Expounding on concepts developed in earlier work; author Stan Lindsay analyzes the religious motives behind the dangerous behavior of some individuals and organizations; presents key indicators of psychotic entelechy; and proposes curative methods.

If you're a buff on historical aircraft like I am; no magazine out there even starts to hold a candle to FlyPast. And there's some serious competition out there. Hidden Warbirds 1 and 2 covered some discoveries of WWII aircraft that I had heard of years ago; but never heard that the aircraft not only had been recovered; but rebuilt to flying condition! But most of the two books revealed discoveries I never had heard of; despite all the aviation books and magazines; airshows; museum visits; and volunteer work with several prominent aviation museums over the last forty years. I was totally fascinated with both volumes and could not put them down until I read them cover to cover. I liken the experience to being given an indepth behind the scenes tour of the National Air Space Museum's Paul Garber facility; except these two books take you around the world; finding treasures of aviation you never knew existed. Nicholas Veronico's two volumes of Hidden Warbirds are MUST read for the WWII aircraft enthusiast!3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. More stories of recovery and restoration of Hidden WarbirdsBy Brian CampbellNicholas Veronico continues his narrative of the recovery and restoration of WWII military aircraft. Learning about the extraordinary efforts of the many dedicated individuals and organizations that work to restore what was once the backbone of the Arsenal of Freedom is an inspiration to any warbird enthusiast. The telling of not only the actual recovery but also the history of the air frame itself lends so much to each story. I would enjoy another book that would show a complete recovery and restoration to airworthy condition of any one aircraft with photos of each phase of the project.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A facinating book about recovering some of the last warbirds out there.By KFMThis book is a must have for warbird enthusiasts; it will fascinate you with stories about aircraft that are recovered from the ends of the earth or; right in someone's backyard. One thing that this book taught me was that; the further away we get from the time that these aircraft rolled off the production line and so the rarer they become; the more viable wrecks become that twenty or thirty years ago wouldn't be worth salvaging. Some of the aircraft recovered in this book were down to bare bones either from being stripped or from suffering the elements for so long but people are willing to expend blood and fortune to recover them because there are so few left.It begs the question; how much of an airframe must be original for the aircraft to be considered original. It's a fascinating argument and a fascinating subject and just one that this book made me ponder. If you're interested in aircraft recovering and/or warbirds this is a must have for your library.
