Description

The new pioneers of this text are ordinary people who have tried to break away from mainstream consumer culture and return to small-town; rural America. The dilemmas; frustrations; adaptations and triumphs of these neo-homesteaders offer insights to anyone thinking of a move "back to the land."

MeyersThis book is a series of descreet chapters discussing the various factors leading to the development of Christianity in England. Topics include the Roman influence; the Celtic tradition; Psalms; private prayer; worship; etc. The author presents a positive view and perhaps overidealized approach to the conversion of the people. Christianity in England appears to have taken a "customer friendly" path with little or no mention of conflict or opposing views. More integration of the social and political factors of the time would have enhanced comprehension. The author's style consisted of straight reporting on a topic that could also be presented in a comparative or argumentative form. My point is that the title specifies Early English spirituality. How did that compare or contrast to early continental European spirituality and what makes the development of Christianity in England unique? I would have appreciated more summation and editorializing to clarify the main points.
