History: From the Dawn of Civilization to the Present Day

DOC History: From the Dawn of Civilization to the Present Day by Adam Hart-Davis in History

Description

Earl J. Hess provides a narrative history of the use of fortifications--particularly trenches and other semi-permanent earthworks--used by Confederate and Union field armies at all major battle sites in the eastern theater of the Civil War. Hess moves beyond the technical aspects of construction to demonstrate the crucial role these earthworks played in the success or failure of field armies. A comprehensive study which draws on research and fieldwork from 300 battle sites; Field Armies and Fortifications in the Civil War is an indispensable reference for Civil War buffs and historians.

A very nice and concise reference book.By AddictThis is a nice gently worn history guide. It came from a library and; although a bit worn; is still a nice reference book. The pages are colorful; informative; yet concise. Added to that; the seller packed the large and heavy book with great care so it could ship without incurring further damage.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good book; kinda jumps around a bit through timeBy Daniel ConnerGood book; kinda jumps around a bit through time; but I guess that's probably the best way to organize a book lkie this. Has lots of pictures; very visual. I would have prefered more text; less pictures; but still a very good book.
