Such a Worthy History; Defeated by Countless Transcription ErrorsBy Top of New York CityThis review is based ONLY on the electronic version by Laconia Publishers. That said; this could easily have been a five star review; if based exclusively on Mercy Otis Warren's excellent early history of the Republic. But there are so very; very many errors that occurred when the publisher attempted to transfer the text from book form to electronic form - without subsequently bothering to proofread. For instance; in one paragraph; "an" instead of "and;" in the very next; the primeval land being "covered with a thick mattress of words" - instead of "woods." And very soon after that; "in any part of the glove" when the author wrote: "in any part of the globe." And so on and so forth ad nauseam. Anyone discerning enough to buy this book is not going to be able to endure the endless errors. What a shame; such a worthy history presented with utter sloppiness. A woman writing publicly during the revolution and being widely read. Mercy Otis Warren was intimate with two major families of Massachusetts at the heart of the revolution. Here she provides a narrative of the war and period until the election of Jefferson filled with direct knowledge of the key actors and key events. The book ends with the uncertainty of the "experiment" based on the new constitution but filled with hope. Her style is from that era and takes just a bit of getting used to and there are many typos but she writes extremely well and it is a very pleasant and unique read overall.8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Revolutionary WarBy Gordon DudaThis is the most fascinating account of the revolutionary war that I have ever read. It was penned by a well educated and recognized writer of the 1700's that lived through the revolutionary war era. The author was an involved witness to the events. The footnotes are a "must read" part of the two volume set. Anyone with either a casual or serious interest in this part of American history should read these books.
