I enjoyed the fact that it was released in kindle format; I hope the publisher keeps on releasing more of their old out of print books so they became more accessible to the general public. This book gives a great operational history of the US Escort Carriers. How they kept on plying the waters around the central atlantic attacking German submarines and most important their milk cows. The maps were also excellent - especially for a book in kindle format. I think this book really helps explain how the battle of the atlantic was drastically turned against the Germans in the middle of 1943. Without these carriers; the central atlantic would have still lacked for desperately needed air cover.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Great story of little known action in WWIIBy frankenstudeWilliam T. Y'Blood has provided a well researched and well written account of the hunter-killer groups in the Atlantic during WWII that were based around escort carriers. These ships adapted from typically non-warship types played a major role in the Battle for the Atlantic against German U-boats. This account is not only a story of ships and planes; but of the people who made the success happen. The account also follows the development of tactics and the improvements to the ships and planes that improved these group's successes. This book also documents the failures of these groups as well especially after the U-boats were equipped with snorkels. A well told tale worth reading.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This pair of books provides a very readable yet technically informative history of a largely ignored aspect of aircraft carrier use during World War II.
