Disappointing offering from a fine new publishing houseBy glen frakeswhile I love Leonaur publishing; Illustrated battles of the Napoleonic wars all 4 volumes is a huge disappointment and a big mistake for them. When you advertise an illustrated series of books; readers expect to see quality printed images. If the Illustrations are only in black and white they must be sharp and clear with good contrast and detail even in the shadows. No one I know will buy an Illustrated set of books with such poor illustrations; dark and blurry without good detail. The pen and ink images are better but all the reproductions of paintings look like they were copied on an old Xerox machine. In defense of Leonaur publishing I have purchased 19 of their offerings in books. By offering reprints of books long out of print; difficult to find; and obscure; they have done a great service for readers and collectors; particularly of military subjects. The book covers are supurb; printed in beautiful color and the texts are perfect. I believe Leonaur is a small publishing company with a great future If they invest sufficient resources in upgrading the quality of their Illustrations. Until that time they should not try to market books advertised as "Illustrated.
